Counseling for Individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, grief and/or trauma

Perhaps you're feeling down or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren't living the life you were meant to lead.  You may be struggling with issues related to trauma, sexual abuse, grief, addictions, or major life changes?  Whatever your needs may be, I'm here to offer support.

 

Research has shown that when someone has experienced a trauma, it physically changes your brain.  There's an emotional and physical response to a traumatic event, the amygdala in your brain becomes overactive and you might become hypervigilant.  Psychological trauma can affect various areas of your life, even after the event has occurred.  There may be present situations that are triggering and you might be unaware of the reasons that the event is so distressing, painful and how it's making your life dysfunctional.

The good news is that your brain is adaptable and malleable. With the right therapeutic approach, the implementation of healthy behavioral changes and the replacement of cognitive distortions, the neuroplasticity of your brain can make positive changes in your life.

Goals of Trauma Therapy:

  1. To reduce or eliminate the trauma symptoms

  2. To shift focus from the past event to the present

  3. To improve daily functioning

  4. To empower Self

  5. To address any addictions associated with the trauma

  6. To develop and implement healthy coping strategies

 

Recovery from trauma is a process of growth and self-discovery.  In my sessions, I will assist you in releasing any shame associated from your trauma, promote behavioral transformation by encouraging a positive outlook and the adoption of new attitudes and responses, and help you heal the pain caused by your trauma.   Let me help you find peace, serenity and direction in your life.  Together we will address your issues in a nurturing, compassionate and empathetic environment.  I'm dedicated to your journey towards self-actualization.
